George W Bush - the beginning of the end of America?

Published by admin under video

Where’s this new law heading the States? It doesn’t take much of a stretch to see the word ‘atheist’ added to the list of ‘unlawful enemy combatants’. Makes you wonder how an ‘educated’ society can allow this to happen doesn’t it?

Firstly, the Peoples Front of Judea - or is it the Judea’s People’s Front…?

Next, the Stoning Scene

Led Zeppelin in London 2007

Published by admin under music, video

Found this excellent footage on YouTube from a lucky ba****d who got seats in the 2nd row of possibly the best concert there will ever be (well if you are my vintage you would think so anyway). Now I just have to wait for the DVD to come out so I can be first in line to buy it!
These songs - Good Times, Bad Times (first song, first album - I was in my last year at school when I bought it) and Ramble On from Led Zeppelin II would have to be among my Led Zep favourites - but there’s so many!
According to the Achilles Last Stand website, this concert will be the last as Robert Plant has turned down the guaranteed 100 MILLION POUNDS to do a tour, even though Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones were keen. Pity, but the songs will always be with us.

If you are interested in viewing more footage of the concert with better audio quality, here’s some links:

Chaser’s War on Hillsong

Published by admin under churches & cults, comedy

The Chasers is an Aussie comedy show that takes the proverbial out of most things - they do a good job on the Hillsong church in this one. A bit of info about this church is on this page at the Millennium Project

Time for more Billy!

Published by admin under comedy

I pop in to YouTube regularly to see if anymore of my favourites have been uploaded. I unearthed some more videos of Billy Connolly (hope he doesn’t mind his videos being ’stolen’ - but to use his phrase ‘och I’m LOADED!’ so I reckon he’d look at it as promotional material). This one had me in stitches tonight.

Seven NEW deadly sins?

Published by admin under churches & cults

Well, the Vatican has, in an apparent attempt to give ‘moral and ethical behavior’ more significance in today’s times, announced seven new deadly sins.

They are - in no particular order of severity I guess: genetic modification, human experimentations, polluting the environment, social injustice, causing poverty, financial gluttony and taking drugs.

So why are these seven classified as ‘deadly’ I wonder? Surely the catholic church could be charged with causing untold counts of social injustice and causing poverty. Don’t get me started on financial gluttony!

The Dangerous 6000 year old rock

“To deny that a rock is 300 million years old is to deny the process that got us to that understanding. Since this process of inquiry is our best tool for succeeding in the world, its denial is a grave threat to our future prosperity. Far from making us stronger, faith cripples us because it takes away our greatest advantage: our ability to question, to learn, to adapt and, therefore, to live.”

“Honesty is difficult. It requires heroic efforts of introspection and self-awareness. This honest portrayal of reality is at the heart of the conflict between science and religion. While science is a natural response to reality, religion demands that we distrust our senses and our intellect, instead relying on a supernatural explanation. In this way, faith robs us of the best tool we have for learning about our world and understanding our true position within it. Religions, especially fundamentalist religions, get stuck because they are based on an immovable, unchangeable, unquestionable authority. But without doubt and questioning, there is no way to acknowledge, much less correct for errors.”

Excerpts from a great article by Lauren Becker.

Pat Robertson, the Rapture et al…

Published by admin under comedy, video

I’m a huge fan of Pat Condell, his wickedly accurate observations on the ridiculousness of religions (especially the silly christian varieties) always manage to hit the nail squarely on the head. I found this one recently and it’s too good to keep to myself.

Scientology… that video

Published by admin under churches & cults, video

If you haven’t seen it, here it is (until the ‘church’ bully-boys demand it be taken down again) - the Tom Cruise video.
I’ve never thought much of him as an actor, now I reckon he’s a fruit-loop as well.
I’d add more, but really the whole ‘S’ thing is a non-issue to me - I mean, if someone is stupid enough to believe in a ‘religion’ founded by a science fiction writer turned con-man, then hell, go for it. The rest of us will just ignore you. Period.
