If you wanted a more telling argument against religion you’d be hard pressed to find one than this.
From this Sydney Morning Herald article :
“A nine-year-old girl who was carrying twins, allegedly after being raped by her stepfather, has undergone an abortion despite complaints from Brazil’s Roman Catholic Church.
Police said the stepfather has been jailed since last week.
Abortion is illegal in Brazil, but judges can make exceptions if the mother’s life is in danger or if the fetus has no chance of survival.
Fatima Maia, director of the public university hospital where the abortion was performed, said the 15-week-old pregnancy posed a serious risk to the 36-kilogram girl.
“She is very small. Her uterus doesn’t have the ability to hold one, let alone two children,” Ms Maia told the Jornal do Brasil newspaper.
But Marcio Miranda, a lawyer for the Archdiocese of Olinda and Recife in north-eastern Brazil, said the girl should have carried the twins to term and had a cesarean section”
That this make sense to anyone is hard enough to believe, but that anyone would force this onto an innocent child is unbelievable.
Ok, so the catholic god would prefer that this poor child would die in agony from being forced to carry twins in her tiny uterus and then have them all die together than permit an abortion. Presumably the logic would be that god would be able to ‘take’ 3 at once into his merciful bosom.
Got me thinking again about what is supposed to happen to babies who die and go to heaven in general. Are there ‘perpetual mommies’ whose role for eternity is to care for these infants who never grow any older? What kind of heaven would it be for them? If breast-feeding is encouraged in heaven - what about eternal nipple chaffing… Sounds more like the other place to me. But I digress.
When are humans ever going to outgrow this nonsense? At least the US has began moving in the general direction of sanity again under the Obama administration including the overturning of a ban on US government funding for family planning groups and the approval for the first human trials using embryonic stem cells of a therapy to help paralysed patients regain movement.
All this and more are under attack from the bloke in the dress!
Sigh… I need a holiday.

See, your problem is you are thinking logically, when it come to religion there is no logic.
You and I know there is no way you could justify the possible death of the child and the baby, just because you oppose abortion. However, the Catholics can justify any sort of strange ideas just by saying “pope says so”.
I expected some pro-lifers to have a good rant in the comments, but no, it seems that even most of them may also be as appalled as I am - at least in private!
