I was watching the Sunday morning program on Channel Seven last week at the conclusion of WYD and one of the presenters (who shall remain nameless, I don’t want him to get into hot water!) could hardly contain himself and spent the entire time trying so hard to be respectful of the catholics and their faith - but failing miserably. I loved it. It was so obvious what he thought of the whole nonsense but he somehow managed to walk the fine line between being totally disrespectful and reporting the facts.
I found a few classic clips on YouTube from the Not The Nine O’Clock News team that say it all. The majority view on religions and all their hypocrisy, ridiculousness and downright silliness is summed up nicely in this lot. Enjoy.
The Apostles Creed -
General Synods Life of Christ -
Gay Christian -
Songs of Praise -
and finally, we had to have the ‘A Day in the Life of a Stunt Pope’ (sorry about the quality it’s the only one I could find) -
The Chasers is an Aussie comedy show that takes the proverbial out of most things - they do a good job on the Hillsong church in this one. A bit of info about this church is on this page at the Millennium Project
I pop in to YouTube regularly to see if anymore of my favourites have been uploaded. I unearthed some more videos of Billy Connolly (hope he doesn’t mind his videos being ’stolen’ - but to use his phrase ‘och I’m LOADED!’ so I reckon he’d look at it as promotional material). This one had me in stitches tonight.
I’m a huge fan of Pat Condell, his wickedly accurate observations on the ridiculousness of religions (especially the silly christian varieties) always manage to hit the nail squarely on the head. I found this one recently and it’s too good to keep to myself.
I remember watching the ‘Sunday crazies’ on New Zealand telly in the late nineties and presumably they are still on. Benny ‘the hair’ was my favourite and could always be relied on for a good laugh.
I wondered how the ratbag was doing and a Google search for him turned up thousands of sites and pages - and in nearly every one his name was associated with the word ‘fraud’.
Here’s part one of an excellent ‘Fifth Estate’ documentary about him. All 5 parts are available in the related videos box at the YouTube page here.
Now, I just knew Bill would eventually tell us what he really thinks of religion. From a concert in Aussie I believe - he’s chosen Aussie to come out. I love it!
As I mentioned Bill in the last post, I just had to share one of my favourite clips of him from a great DVD that I received as a pressie a while ago. Luckily someone else thought it was great too, and posted the excerpt on YouTube.
