Came across this today. Great interview - if you can spare the hour or two to watch all 8 parts of it. Here’s the final part and for what it’s worth, I believe the most damning criticism of this dangerous cult yet.
Jason Beghe was in for 13 years and in his words ‘I got into it because I wanted to help‘, now he’s doing this interview for the same reason. Good on him, it takes guts to do what he’s doing.
I was watching the Sunday morning program on Channel Seven last week at the conclusion of WYD and one of the presenters (who shall remain nameless, I don’t want him to get into hot water!) could hardly contain himself and spent the entire time trying so hard to be respectful of the catholics and their faith - but failing miserably. I loved it. It was so obvious what he thought of the whole nonsense but he somehow managed to walk the fine line between being totally disrespectful and reporting the facts.
I found a few classic clips on YouTube from the Not The Nine O’Clock News team that say it all. The majority view on religions and all their hypocrisy, ridiculousness and downright silliness is summed up nicely in this lot. Enjoy.
The Apostles Creed -
General Synods Life of Christ -
Gay Christian -
Songs of Praise -
and finally, we had to have the ‘A Day in the Life of a Stunt Pope’ (sorry about the quality it’s the only one I could find) -
Edit Sep 9: I recently found an interesting page on Butterflies & Wheels that addresses my difficulty with respecting religion - his very clear explanation of the difference between respect and tolerance has made it clearer. Here’s an excerpt from the article: “Within a liberal society in which there is tolerance there is, of necessity, scope for each to have objections to the positions of others. There is no scope for suppression of any sort. Nor is there scope for the universal demand of respect for any one point of view. Nor is there scope for a mindless respect which encompasses all points of view, especially since these are often inconsistent with one another. Tolerance is quite consistent with according religion no respect.”
Found this excellent footage on YouTube from a lucky ba****d who got seats in the 2nd row of possibly the best concert there will ever be (well if you are my vintage you would think so anyway). Now I just have to wait for the DVD to come out so I can be first in line to buy it!
These songs - Good Times, Bad Times (first song, first album - I was in my last year at school when I bought it) and Ramble On from Led Zeppelin II would have to be among my Led Zep favourites - but there’s so many!
According to the Achilles Last Stand website, this concert will be the last as Robert Plant has turned down the guaranteed 100 MILLION POUNDS to do a tour, even though Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones were keen. Pity, but the songs will always be with us.
Many of us believe that there are, in fact, far more non-believers in a god than is generally reported. I'd be interested to see the results from the Poll below, so why not register your belief anonymously?
