We sometimes forget in our day to day lives how our entire existence depends on the planet’s health.
Global warming is not just an ‘issue’. It is a vitally important problem that we must face. Or face the consequences.
Using technology - and continuing the discovery of much more - is absolutely essential to not just improve the lives of the planet’s inhabitants who happen to be here presently, but to ensure the continuance of the planet.
The Pale Blue Dot is a photograph of planet Earth made by Voyager 1 from a record distance (more than 6 billion kilometres) , showing it against the vastness of space. It is also the title of a 1994 book by astronomer Carl Sagan that was inspired by the photo.
The words that Carl speaks in this video (I suggest you watch the video first) are far more important than all the religious rhetoric and fairy tales that some ‘educators’ flood our children’s minds with. Children are the inheritors of our triumphs and our mistakes. Inspire them to find answers rather than bury their heads in the sand and pretend we live in a world controlled by a supernatural being who ‘knows best’ and will take care of us. Sorry, but that isn’t the truth. It’s up to us to save ourselves.
This video is an uplifting (in one sense) and dismaying (in another) commentary about our home in the cosmos and how little we respect it. I wept when I first watched it. Enjoy and share. Thank you Carl, you will never be forgotten.
